The Federal Government has debunked the fear generated by the recent United States and United Kingdom terror alerts in Abuja, saying citizens are safe.
The National Security Adviser Major General. Babagana Monguno stated this in the State House Correspondents after an emergency National Security Council meeting held by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Mr Monguno addressed journalists with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Geoffrey Onyema; the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Ahmed Rufai Abubakar.
According to Monguno, the panic, which trailed the terror alert, addressed to United States and United Kingdom citizens in Nigeria, was of no need as the hype and the sense of insecurity it created were ungrounded.
He urged Nigerians and other foreign residents to go about their businesses without any sense of fear.
He also said that the armed forces, security, and intelligence agencies are not relenting in their efforts to make sure that all Nigerians and every part of the country are safe for all.
Those present at the emergency National Security Council meeting included Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr Boss Mustapha; and the Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Gambari.
Others were the Minister of Defense, Major General Bashir Magashi, Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami; and Minister of Police Affairs, Mohammed Maigari Dingyadi.
The Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor, led the service chiefs, including the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farouk Yahaya; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Awwal Gambo; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao to the meeting; and the Chief of Defense Intelligence, Major-General Samuel Adebayo, were also present.
